About Cat Calculators

Our cat calculators collection provides 5 free online tools for cat owners. Each tool is grounded in veterinary and animal welfare guidelines to help you keep your cat healthy and happy.

Cat Age in Human Years

Cats age faster than humans, especially in their early life. The first year of a cat's life is roughly equivalent to 15 human years; by the end of year two, a cat is comparable to a 24-year-old human. After that, each additional cat year equals roughly 4 human years. By these measures, a 10-year-old cat is equivalent to a 56-year-old human. Cats are generally considered "senior" at age 11 and "geriatric" at 15. With modern veterinary care, many cats now live into their late teens and even twenties.

Cat Nutrition and Feeding

Cats are obligate carnivores — their biology requires nutrients found only in animal tissue, including taurine, arachidonic acid, and preformed vitamin A. Unlike dogs, cats cannot synthesize these from plant sources. A cat's daily calorie requirement depends on weight, age, activity level, and whether it is spayed or neutered. A 4 kg neutered adult indoor cat typically needs around 200–240 calories per day. Wet food (high moisture content) is generally preferred by veterinarians as it supports kidney health and urinary tract function, which are common concerns in older cats.

Indoor vs Outdoor Life Expectancy

Indoor cats live significantly longer on average than outdoor cats. Indoor-only cats have a life expectancy of 12–18 years; outdoor and "indoor-outdoor" cats average only 5–7 years. The difference is due to traffic accidents, predator encounters, infectious diseases (FIV, FeLV), and exposure to toxins. While outdoor access enriches a cat's environment, supervised outdoor time or enclosed "catios" offer a compromise that provides stimulation without the same risks.

Cat Pregnancy

Feline gestation averages 63–65 days from mating. Cats are seasonally polyestrous, cycling into heat every 2–3 weeks during longer daylight months. A litter typically contains 3–5 kittens, though litters of 1–9 are possible. Signs of approaching birth include nesting behaviour, restlessness, and a temperature drop below 37.8°C (100°F) approximately 12–24 hours before labour begins.
